Today, meditation is growing in popularity among business owners and others in high-stress positions, given meditation’s ability to relieve stress, heal the body and harmonize the mind, body and emotions.

Tony Robbins

Today’s world is fast-paced. We live in a goal-oriented society with endless information at our fingertips. We struggle to switch off, whether from work or our smartphones. Meyers-Briggs found that those who are always ‘on’ are more likely to experience high stress or mental exhaustion (Type and the Always-on Culture, 2019). Stress overstimulates the para-sympathetic nervous systems, responses become heightened, and the body produces too much cortisol. When we have too much, our bodies switch into a state of ‘fight or flight’, we begin to feel stressed out. We are less productive.

Scientific research has shown that meditation has a positive effect on stress levels, promotes good health and boosts mental well-being. From a business perspective, it also improves productivity and focus. Many companies now recognise the extensive benefits of meditation and mindfulness practice in supporting employees. Happier and healthier employees are less likely to experience burnout, take fewer sick days and are ultimately more productive and content in the workplace.
