Mindful Practices

The best way to capture moments is to pay attention. This is how we cultivate mindfulness.

Jon Kabat-Zinn

Mindful exercises are a powerful way tool to quickly get grounded and connected. Checking in with the senses can immediately shift our state of mind and open up access to calm. Think about incorporating some of these exercises into your day and be sure to try them with your children. All age children will love these nourishing activities.

Take a journey with your five senses

  1. What are 5 things that you see
  2. Look for 4 things to touch
  3. What are 3 things that you can hear
  4. What are 2 things that you can smell
  5. What is 1 thing you can taste

Be sure to check in with yourself and your children afterward: How do you/they feel now? What did you experience/feel? Ask yourself: What was it like to slow down? Would I like to connect more? What would it be like to feel calmer/more content? Ask anything else that feels appropriate & meaningful.

Most of all enjoy these moments of being in the here and now. Meditation and Mindfulness offer us the opportunity to hear ourselves and even quieten busy monkey minds and unwanted internal dialogue.
